Come on 日本 よみがえれ!

2011.04.10.14:02

Today's blog is in English.
Please forgive my poor English!

I have many friends who live in foreign countries.
They check my blogs many times.

The person who wrote me following massage through Facebook is Shane.

She is like my American younger sister.
She was the first assistant English teacher in Nara-pref. and lived near my house more than 30 years ago.

She came to our wedding ceremony.
We visited her house in California several times.
Her daughters(my nieces) stayed in my house several years ago.

She came to cheer my sons up at Nunome-dam of the Nara stage ,the Tour of Japan.

Anyway my younger sister wrote me nice message and introduced me the wonderful song of YouTube .
I cried when I watched it.
The phrase " Come on Nippon Yomigaere!" gave me much power!

Thanks a lot,Shane!
We will do our best.

Hi Masa and Chi-chan and the Tsuji family,
It's been several weeks since we last wrote. I know this has been a very difficult time for you and for all of Japan. I read news stories every day about Japan. The pictures and video clips I see break my heart. I know that even in Kansai, your lives have been affected by some supply shortages and gas rationing.

There is good news today about TEPCO stopping the nuclear leak into the sea. And the other happy news was that the miracle dog, ばん/ Ban, was not only saved from the sea but also that she have been reunited with her owner!! I continue to pray for you and for Japan.

I want to share with you a nice music video from Sweden I found on YouTube the other day. It's called "Song for Japan Man - Yomigaere! / マン - 甦れ!(応援歌)." I sent an email to the songwriter and singer (mansanraps) and he wrote back to me! He thanked me and said this about his song:

"When I wrote the song I was hoping that someone in Japan or who loves Japan just like I do would hear it and maybe feel a little bit less devastated for a while and maybe find some inspiration in it. So to receive mails like this one really warms my heart and I am glad I followed my impulse to make a song for them^^"

Please check out his song on YouTube:

What do you think of this song? I think he sings in Japanese very well!
By the way, this Friday night, Ariel and I are going to hear another がいじんsinger perform えんか at UC Berkeley, ジェロ. (Jero). I heard about ジェロ many months ago and was surprised to see that he would be singing in Berkeley. And his concert is free since he is there to receive a special award from the university. We are very lucky, I think.

I hear that the 桜の木 are blooming later this year due to the colder weather this spring. The almonds trees around Dixon all blossomed last month.
I hope that your mother and sister, Sadako, are all well. Please tell them that I often think of them and hope they are fine. What grade is Sadako teaching this year? Please send pictures of your adorable grandchildren!!! I miss them and you all very much.
